The Riot Skirt in a Two-Way Stretch Structured Knit

My second Riot Skirt (George + Ginger), sewn in a two-way structured knit from Hobby Lobby, makes me much happier than my first version in cotton lycra.

Improvements Over Version One

  • An overall better fit, accomplished by shortening the straps by 1″, sizing down the waistband to size 4, grading the top of the skirt down to size 4, and taking about 2″ off the length.
  • More suitable fabric. More structure and a stiffer hand really lend themselves well to this fitted silhouette.

Future Adjustments

  • If I attempt this same make with a similar fabric, I might add a smidge to the waistband. Somewhere between size 4 and 6, or maybe bump it all the way back up to 6 while keeping the top of the skirt graded to a 4. The reason for that is the slight lip that’s happening where those two pieces join; it seems like the top of the skirt has just a little too much fabric to lay flat. Also, it’ll be easier to slip on with a little larger waistband. That’s really it though; there’s nothing else I would change.
