A Little Black Clutch

The Pink Peony is my favorite pattern for making a classy clutch. It boasts a wrist strap, a shoulder strap, and it’s roomy enough to fit a cell phone plus several essentials for special events or date nights. This is the third one I’ve made to pair with my latest Ava Sundress and I’m not about to stray from it anytime soon.

About the Pattern

Pink Peony Bag by Charmed Liebling. I think I found this pattern on Bluprint before it became Craftsy and obliterated whatever patterns they once had. Thankfully, you can still download it for free from the designer’s website.

About the Fabric

Main: some kind of black woven that came from somewhere I can’t remember

Lining: Ink Drawing Rayon Voile from Blackbird Fabrics

  • Content: 100% Rayon
  • Weight: 115gsm / 3.3oz
  • Opacity: Semi-Opaque
  • Drape: Fluid

What I Did Differently

  • I used a lighter stabilizer than called for on the outer front flap so the pleats would be a little easier to work with than my previous bags.
  • I interfaced the shoulder strap on my red version, but skipped it this time since the black fabric seemed stable enough without it.

Notes for Next Time

  • One of these days, I’ll have to make a point to not be in a rush to make one of these and include an inner zippered pocket
  • I’d really like to make the shoulder strap removeable. I think it’d be pretty easy, actually, since the pattern already has one D-ring attached. I just duplicate that on the other side, and then sew lobster clasps on both ends of the shoulder strap.
