What is Interlock Twist Yarn (ITY)?

ITY (interlock twist yarn) is a type of knit fabric with some wonderful properties that make it great for flowy tops and skirts. I love this little cheat-sheet graphic by Amelia Lane Designs:

Key words: smooth, silky, fluid, wonderful drape, stretchy, great recovery

I’ve used ITY once before on my hacked Lounge Gown and it’s become one of my favorite fabrics.

This particular ITY came from Surge Fabrics and has been camping out in my stash since December because ITY isn’t exactly a warm and cuddly fabric. It’s definitely made for summer, though.

It’s cool and airy, feels great against the skin, and begs to be made into something extra-flowy.

I can also confirm it’s easy to sew with. The edges don’t curl, and even though it’s slinky with stretch, it’s easy to control.

I Made Another Daisy Tank

I feel like the Daisy Tank and ITY are a match made in heaven. I was going to hem this sucker, but I love the fluidity of the raw edge, and so I’m going to leave it wild and free.

I have a theory involving some slider beads that I’m going to test on the tie strap as soon as my shipment comes. Fingers crossed that it works as well in real life as it does in my head, because I love love love how this top turned out, and those colors are on fire. I feel like a walking piece of art.

I’m fighting the urge to buy more of this. At only $4.50 a yard, the only thing stopping me is shipping charges…and the cautionary angel on my shoulder telling me to stop spending money on fabric. (Sometimes I hate that killjoy.)
