Rock & Republic Sweater No. 4

My fourth and final Rock & Republic replica is made from this beautiful loose weave sweater knit I also used on a Twist It Up top.

About the Fabric

Fallen Snow. Loose Weave Sweater Knit from Boho Fabrics

  • Weight: 9 oz.
  • Horizontal Stretch: 150%
  • Vertical Stretch: 60%
  • Poly/Rayon/Spandex Blend

I ordered a total of 3 yards of this fabric and made this sweater, the afore mentioned Twist It Up top, and I still have a bit left over. (Maybe I’ll make a scarf out of it.) I scored this during their tag sale which brought the price of it down to about $3.80/yard. Major score. It’s super soft, sheer, and stretchy. The vertical stretch is considerable, so final makes end up a bit longer than originally planned. That didn’t bother me on this particular sweater, though. I love extra long sleeves, and the bodice is already long so it doesn’t detract from the silhouette I was going for.

This fabric is a little challenging to sew, as most loose and open weave fabrics can be. A generous seam allowance helps, as well as stabilizer to start seams, and Wonder Tape if you’re having a really rough time. Cut edges definitely shed, but with a little extra care, it’s not too difficult to handle while sewing.

The stretch of this fabric also made it vital to reinforce the shoulder seams and back neckline with seam binding.

The narrow hems were a breeze, though, thanks to my easy narrow hem technique. (I seriously use this trick all. the. time.)

About the Pattern

As with my previous replicas, I used my frankensteined pattern borne of half-tracing and half Sinclair Patterns Laura Cardigan. I haven’t deviated from where I landed with replica no. 2, although I did skip the buttonholes on this one. I may circle back to add those in if I find myself missing them.

So there it is! #4 of 4 in my Rock & Republic replica series.
