GGVNeck in Elephant Print DBP

I see people go nuts for some questionable fabric at times, but we all have our preferences. My personal weird pleasure when it comes to fabric is elephant prints. I don’t know why; I just love elephant prints. The more abstracted, the better. So I was all about this black and white double brushed poly from Made of Love when they stocked it, and as a testament to how weird this particular taste of mine is, they still have it in stock as of this writing.

My First GGVNeck in DBP

As my third George + Ginger Vneck overall, this is my first attempt at one in double brushed poly. What took me so long to realize the potential of DBP for this pattern, I’ll never know, but I am a fan.

I don’t own nearly enough basic long-sleeved tees. The GGVNeck is my answer to that problem. I want to make an army of these. They are so great to wear alone, to layer, to accessorize, and they’re a pretty quick sew. I did this in one evening after work.

The comfort, warmth, stretch, and drape of DBP lends itself so well to this shirt; it’s almost like wearing pajamas.

The Scarf

As an afterthought, I threw together this narrow scarf. The openness of the neck tends to give me a little chill sometimes, so the scarf adds plenty of warmth and some fun styling options (long and loose, gathered and cozy, flowy front-to-back; it can even double as a headband.) Pair it with some other solids for a fun pop of print in other outfits, too.

Changes to Consider Next Time

  • I might be able to size the whole thing down. I’m finding the neck a bit oversized.
  • I might also reshape the sides to either be straight (no grading) or taper in ever so slightly.
  • If I’m feeling adventurous, I’m wondering about reworking the armscye for less ease around the underarm. It doesn’t necessarily bother me the way it is; I guess I’m just curious about playing with the fit there. It could be a learning exercise if nothing else.
